"Stay Forever Young" by Ty Ellender

Stay Forever Young  is a waltz-like marimba solo that contains thoughtful melodic ideas with hints of jazz harmony throughout the composition. This piece allows the performer to individually express the tempo, dynamics, and phrasing in their own way. Stay Forever Young was originally an improvised idea that was first conceived on the piano back in 2020. During quarantine, I spent a lot of time reflecting on my life, particularly the good memories with my friends and family. I wanted this piece to serve as a reminder to maintain a youthful state of mind. Eventually, I decided to arrange the piece for solo marimba in 2021 and perform it for my first doctoral recital in 2022.
